How to configure Distributed File System

Windows 2000 Server comes with a feature called distributed file system that allows files distributed across network to appear as though it is situation in a local network.

Client based DFs components holds referrals on these file certain interval – as define by administrator.

Step 1

Select Create a standalone Dfs root and click Next to continue.

Step 2

Here you will need to provide the server name. The default name for this computer is compact. You should set it to your computer name. Click Next when you’re done.

Step 3

The existing computer has a shared folder called SD then click Next to continue.

Step 4

You are also prompted for additional comment. Click Next to continue.

Step 5

The details of the Dfs that you have created is listed here. Click Finish once you have verified it.
