How to set the performance counter

Setting performance counter is essential in ensuring proper functionality of your system and alert administrator so that administrator would be able to handle this situation before it become more severe.

In this exam we’re trying to set an alert to be activated once the disk space is less than 3000 Mb or 3 gigabytes.

Step 1

To do it, go to Start and select Programs, choose Administrative Tools and after that click on Performance.

A window similar to the one shown below will appear. From the window, right click on Alert.

Step 2

By selecting New Alert Setting. You will be prompted for the name of your alert.

Step 3

Let’s just call this Disk Storage and click OK to continue. Then it’s time for us to select the counter for our alert counter.

Step 4

Select Logical Disk and set the counters to Free Megabytes. Click Add to register all of these into the system. Click on Close to close the window. Then set the limit on the window shown below :

Step 5

This parameter determine the threshold before initiating an action to your computer. To set what is the action to be taken, check on Send a network message to and key in the computer’s name. This will allow messages to be directed to that computer when this threshold value is breached.

Step 6

Please click on OK to save the settings.
